I know that fabric softener us supposed to be used in our washing machines, but you probably don’t know that this thing can be useful for many things, just like baking soda or distilled vinegar.
1. Eliminates Soap Scum
Showers and bathtubs tend to generate soap scum and water stains over time. If you have white or light tile, this is even more apparent. Just apply some fabric softener onto a rag and wipe onto any soap scum stains. After about 10 minutes, wipe the fabric softener off and rinse.
2. Removes Stubborn Wallpaper
If you’ve ever tried to remove old wallpaper from a room, you don’t need to be told how difficult it can be. Make the job easier by mixing together a few tablespoons of fabric softener with some water. Use a sponge to dab the solution onto the wallpaper, then wait for about 10 minutes. After that, the wallpaper should come off more easily.
3. Air Freshener
When used in moderation, fabric softener can act as a deodorizer. Just mix together one part fabric softener, two parts water, and a few tablespoons of baking soda in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture around your house to eliminate odors. Remember to spray in a well-ventilated area or toss open your windows so that the smell doesn’t become too overwhelming.
4. Extends Paintbrush Life
Even if you clean your paintbrushes thoroughly, you might find that they’re all dry and crusty when you go to use them next. After cleaning your paintbrushes, let them soak in some water mixed with a drop of fabric softener. Dry as you normally would, and they’ll be much softer the next time you use them.
5. Eliminates Static
If your carpets and furniture are full of static in the dry, winter months, mix together one part fabric softener and two parts water. Lightly mist these items with the spray, then wait for them to dry. This will ward off static for quite some time.
6. Removes Grime And Cookware Stains
If your cookware is full of stuck-on grime and burnt food residue, add a few drops of fabric softener and warm water into each one, then let them soak. After an hour or so, the grime should wipe away with ease.
7. Cleans Harsh Residue
If the hard surfaces in your home are stained with stubborn residue, mix a few tablespoons of fabric softener with a cup or so of water in a spray bottle. Use a cloth to apply the solution to the stains, then buff them with a clean cloth after applying the solution.
8. Removes Hairspray Stains
If you’ve accidentally gotten hairspray on your mirror, walls, or vanity, just mix together one part fabric softener with two parts water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution on the sticky stains, then wipe them away with a dry, clean cloth.
9. Deters Pests
If you find ants and other bugs making their way into your home, stop them right in their tracks by mixing together some water and a few drops of fabric softener in a spray bottle. Spray the solution on any areas you notice bugs hanging out and they should be gone in no time.
10. Lifts Pet Hair
Mix together one part fabric softener with two parts water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution onto your carpets, then let them dry. When vacuuming, you’ll notice that the hair will get sucked up much more easily.
