One of the worst things I see my neighbors do is throwing out food, it really hurts my eyes to see how much food ends up in the landfill every year. We spend so much money on food, and throwing food away means that we’re throwing out money out. If you’re trying to cut down your food waste, and save your money, here are 7 ways you can use to finally do it, start from now!
1. Save Your Eggshells
The next time you crack some eggs, save the shells instead of throwing them away. You can crush the shells and add them to the soil in your garden. The calcium in the eggshells will help your plants to thrive, and the shells will prevent pests from damaging your garden.
2. Don’t Toss Banana Peels
If you have trouble sleeping; here’s a trick for you! Save some banana peels and steep them in hot water. This will create a tea that’s perfect for curing insomnia. When you’re done steeping peels, put them in a compost bin, not the trash can (we’ll get to this later).
3. Don’t Overshop
If you know you’re traveling the week after shopping, or that your family members won’t all be there, don’t buy a lot of groceries. Also, planning your meals before you buy any food is a great way to make sure that you’re only buying the things you’re going to use before they go bad.
