It seems that a specific type of food is recalled from grocery shops every other day. Although health and safety standards have never been higher, this does not always prevent an infectious outbreak. Currently, a number of foods are linked to outbreaks. Read on to find out which foods you should stay away from now to avoid getting sick.
1. Goldfish Crackers
You may have heard that Pepperidge Farm is recalling four different types of Goldfish Crackers as a result of a potential salmonella outbreak. Flavor Blasted Extra Cheddar, Flavor Blasted Sour Cream & Onion, Whole Grain Extra Cheddar, and Goldfish Mix Extra Cheddar + Pretzel flavors are all part of this recall.
2. Pre-Cut Melon
It is best to avoid pre-cut melons or fruit salads that contain them. This fruit has been associated with a possible salmonella outbreak, with about 60 cases reported in five Midwestern states. The fruit has been sold in a number of different grocery shops, so it is best not to eat it at all.
3. Salads From McDonald’s
The food chain has stopped selling salads in 14 different states following an outbreak of cyclospora. Cyclospora is a parasite that causes symptoms extremely similar to those experienced with the flu. Although McDonald’s is working to control the outbreak, waiting a few more months to enjoy a McDonald’s salad is not a bad idea.
4. Kellogg’s Honey Smacks Cereal
If you have a box of Kellogg’s Honey Smacks cereal in your pantry, you should throw it out. The cereal has been linked to a salmonella outbreak affecting 73 people in 31 different states. Oops!
5. Pasta Salad From Hy-Vee
Hy-Vee, a Midwestern grocery shop chain, has recalled its pasta salad due to a potential salmonella outbreak.
6. Swiss Rolls
Flowers Foods recently recalled Swiss rolls (which go by several other names) due to a possible salmonella outbreak. The company also recalled one of its breads, Captain John Derst’s Old Fashioned Bread.
7. Raw Turkey
