I often fantasize about what life would be like if we were debt free. Of course, most of our debt comes in the form of a mortgage, and I can’t imagine the financial freedom we would have if we didn’t. And that’s exactly why Jaimie and Dave decided to build a non-traditional house with two shipping containers, allowing them to be debt and mortgage free, since they built the house for only $80,000.

The British Columbia couple built this beautiful modern house with a 20 and 40 foot container. The house is 406 square feet and includes a top deck to enjoy the outdoors. The house is located on a property that the couple bought before construction began.

The interior of the home features gorgeous wood floors and a lounge area complete with a fireplace.

The kitchen seems too big for a small house, and even includes all the normal-sized appliances. The island is spacious and six people can eat comfortably around it.

After the kitchen there is a spacious bathroom with lots of storage space. There is also an attached cupboard/basket for more storage space.

At the top of a spiral staircase is the couple’s bedroom which offers a magnificent view of the surrounding forest. There is also a small sitting area and a television, which the couple usually only watches when they are in bed.

This unique house is complemented by an outdoor terrace next to the bedroom, where the couple likes to sit and drink coffee in the morning and enjoy dinner at night. I don’t blame them – the view is amazing!

Jaimie and Dave really appreciate their little piece of paradise, and the financial freedom this house allows them to live.
