Most of us use our cell phones constantly throughout the day.

So it makes sense that we plug them in to charge them at night while we sleep.

However, have you ever thought about where you charge your cell phone while you sleep?

Many of us are very attached to our phones, so we sleep with them next to or under our pillow.

However, firefighters are warning people about the danger of this seemingly innocent habit.

The Newton New Hampshire Fire Department published a post on Facebook that illustrates this point perfectly.

The post reveals that 53% of children and teens charge their phone or tablet in bed or under the pillow. This becomes a potential hazard because the heat generated by the charger can’t dissipate, so the charger gets hotter and hotter as the night goes on.

It’s easy to see how bedding and pillows can quickly catch fire as a result.

Research has revealed that 53% of children/teens charge their phone or tablet either on their bed or under their pillow. This is can be extremely dangerous. The heat generated cannot dissipate and the charger will become hotter and hotter. The likely result is that the pillow/bed will catch fire. This places the child/teen as well as everyone else in the home in great danger. Please check where you & your family charge your moblie devices.

Pretty scary, right? It’s amazing how something as simple as charging our devices can start a fire and even threaten people’s lives. You should always charge your phone, tablet or laptop on a hard surface. Any soft or cloth surface (such as beds, pillows and couches) is a no-no. As soon as you notice a charger that has seen better days or is starting to fray, throw it away and replace it. Old chargers are more likely to spark and cause a fire.
