I got this recipe from my mother. This recipe was passed down in my dad’s family from his step-grandmother. It’s always a hit in my house!

Ingredients For Homemade Chicken And Dumplin’s
- 1 cwater
- 1 Tbspshortening
- 1 tspsalt
- 1 tspbaking powder
- 2-3 call purpose flour
- 1 mdchicken, whole
- 3/4 tspsalt
- 1/4 tspblack pepper
- water, enough to boil and for broth
- NOTE: IF MORE BROTH IS NEEDED ADD CANNED BROTH OR WATER AND A CHICKEN BOUILLON CUBE
How To Make Homemade Chicken And Dumplin’s
- 1– Boil chicken with water, 3/4 tsp. salt and 1/4 tsp. black pepper until done. (about 1 hour) Then remove from broth and debone.
- 2– In a mixing bowl, add salt, baking powder, shortening, 1 cup water and enough flour (about 2 cups) to make a dough. Note: May add a little yellow food coloring to mixture before adding flour, if desired.
- 3– Roll out dough VERY THIN on floured surface and cut into strips; about 1″ wide and 3″ long. Parchment paper works great for rolling out dough.
- 4– Add the strips of dough (dumplins) to the boiling chicken broth. Boil about 20 min. Stirring occasionally. Add chicken; season with additional salt and pepper to taste. Note: may add 1 chicken bouillon cube or 1/4 tsp of poultry seasoning, if desired.
