If you live somewhere with cold, snowy winters, you don’t need me to tell you how icy the stairs, sidewalks, and walkways can get. I had my first slip and fall down our front porch steps last week, and I can safely say I do not wish to repeat that. Fortunately, there’s a simple way to make your own ice melt – it’s cheap, cheerful, and involves products you already have at home!
As reported by WYFF News 4, you only need three products to make your own ice melt. Simply mix together one quart of lukewarm water, three drops of liquid dish soap, and one ounce of rubbing alcohol. Transfer the solution to a spray bottle.
Then, all you have to do is spray (or pour, if you prefer) the solution onto any icy steps, walkways, etc. around the exterior of your home. What’s nice about this solution as opposed to salt is that it won’t hurt dogs’ paws, which salt tends to do!
