Ground meat is one of those things we always seem to have in our freezers. Between stir-fries, tacos, chili and more, there are a million and one things we can cook with ground meat. However, freezing and defrosting ground meat can be a bit of a pain, especially if you only want to use some of it.
Luckily, YouTube user sutlaf has created a method for freezing, dividing and thawing meat that is safe, clever and super convenient.
All you have to do is:
- Transfer the ground meat to a freezer bag
- Use a rolling pin (or a wine bottle) to evenly distribute the meat in the bag.
- Use chopsticks, the back of a knife or any other hard, flat surface to divide the meat into the size of your choice.
4. Freeze!

This method is great because it allows you to only use the amount of meat you need, and spreading the meat into a thinner layer helps it to defrost more quickly. Click here to watch the full video explaining this method.
