We’ve collected some lesser-known tips from cleaning professionals who do their jobs well. Read on to find out how to make your home shine.

1- Invest in some quirky tools

Use old toothbrushes to clean

Use old toothbrushes to clean Namely, a squeegee, a toothbrush, and cloth diapers. Squeegees can be used to clean the shower, as well as clear countertops or stairs. Cloth diapers make excellent dusters, and a toothbrush gets into small nooks and crannies.

2- Treat stains immediately
It is recommended that you treat laundry immediately to prevent stains from setting in. The longer you wait, the more stubborn they become.

For surfaces such as marble, wipe them down on the spot with a soft cloth or a cleaning solution specifically designed for that material. Avoid using lemon or vinegar on marble.

3- Wear indoor shoes indoors
This means leaving your outdoor clothes at the front door and putting on slippers, socks or flip-flops for the house. This will keep the dirt and bacteria you picked up outside from spreading throughout the house.

4- Vacuum inward for a double dose

Vacuuming

Expert Emma Anderson suggests vacuuming one room and then vacuuming the opposite way until you leave. This will give you the opportunity to vacuum the busiest areas of the floor twice. Vacuum at the entrance, then at the exit.

5-Vacuum curtains
Tossing your curtains or drapes with a towel releases dirt and dust on the floor, making it easier to vacuum.

6-Keep the lights on
It’s easier to spot dirty spots when the space is well lit. Take advantage of natural sunlight by opening blinds or curtains, and turn on your lights if the space is dark so you can see what you are cleaning.

7- Clean by following a path
Imagine your space is divided into a grid or slice to make sure you cover every part. Move to the next area of the path.

8- Tackle the Biggest Mess First

If there is a spot in the room (or house) that is a real cyclone, tackle it first. You won’t have to go around it and the rest of the room will be a breeze.

9Clean your dishwasher
Use a paper towel to remove excess water from the bottom. Pour 2-3 cups of distilled white vinegar into the dishwasher and run a cycle to sanitize it.

10- Speed up laundry time
Put a dry towel in a wet wash to help it dry faster.

11- Keep Shaving Cream on Hand

ShavingCream

Use it to remove stains from carpets, clean stainless steel appliances or shine mirrors. It can also help clean small spots of grime on your oven.

12- Put on some music
All the experts agree that playing loud music helps to refuel and pass the time. Put on your music, an audiobook or a podcast!

Complete your cleaning routine with these simple tips and get the job done quickly. Don’t forget to keep a cleaning basket handy to organize all your supplies.

13- Clean from top to bottom
To avoid dust bunny fallout, start at the top of the room so that what you shake out hits the floor. Then tackle the furniture and floors. If you wish, you can apply this method to the entire house. Start by cleaning the top level and work your way down.
