Dandelions are pesky weeds that are often terminated because people think that they are harmful not knowing that it has many benefits they would never think of. Dandelions always end up between kids’ hands and they blow the seed puffs to watch them getting carried away by the wind.

Dandelion’s benefits are not yet backed up by scientific studies, but every natural practitioner swears that it has benefits. The pesky weed is mainly used as a substitute for coffee, but no one knows why or how it works yet. Don’t be afraid, dandelion is completely safe to use, but if you are allergic to chamomile, marigold, iodine, chrysanthemums, daisies, ragweed, or yarrow, then you should take a step back.

1. Nutrition.

The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMM) claims that dandelions are full of vitamin A, B, C, and D, as well as zinc, iron, and potassium. With this in mind, adding dandelions to a salad is a great choice because it adds so many components to it.

2. Coffee substitute.

If you are a coffee person but you somehow can’t consume it, then the UMM has some good news for you. According to The University of Maryland Medical Center, dandelions can be used as a replacement for coffee. Simply use a tablespoon of roasted and granulated dandelion root, a tablespoon of roasted and granulated chicory root, and 35 ounces of boiling water. Put everything in a French press and start making your new coffee type. You can use unroasted roots to make the coffee, but the roasting gives the drink a rich taste.

3. Diuretic.

Dandelion can also be used as a diuretic for extended periods of time. MAKE SURE TO CHECK IN WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE USING ANY KIND OF HERBAL REMEDY BECAUSE THEY CAN INTERFERE WITH SOME MEDICATIONS. Make iced dandelion tea from a quart of fresh and gently washed dandelion flowers, 4 juiced limes, 3 tablespoons of honey or sugar, a cup of hot water, and 3 quarts of cold water. Dissolve the sweetener in the warm water (in a gallon jug), then add the lime juice and cold water. Once done, add in the dandelions and start stirring gently. Put the mixture in your refrigerator for 4 hours before drinking it.
