While it’s not ideal to be a bookworm, it’s also not good to throw everything away. There are things that our grandmothers surely reused that we probably don’t consider valuable. However, reusing the following items can save you money and reduce the amount of trash you produce!
vegetable scraps
Don’t throw away vegetable peelings and vegetable stock. You can easily make vegetable stock from leftovers. You can also boil potato skins in olive oil, salt, pepper and other spices of your choice to make delicious crispy potato skins. Anything you don’t use, you can compost for your garden.
wine and beer bottles
Remove the labels from wine and beer bottles and use them to hold flowers. You can also use them as candle holders. If you don’t like crafts, take them to the beer store and they will pay you for the empty bottles!
newspapers
Did you know that covering soil with damp newspaper keeps weeds from growing? It’s also useful to have a pile of newspapers to wrap up broken objects, etc.
Peel citrus peels.
Soaking citrus peels in hot water creates a natural disinfectant that you can use to clean surfaces in your home. Placing citrus peels in a musty-smelling closet or basement can also help deodorize the space and give it a fresh scent.
Pennies
If you have jars and jars of pennies lying around that you know you’ll never use, why not turn them into a nice coin holder or mirror?
Mason Jars
The uses for Mason Jars are truly endless. You can use them to store dry goods in your pantry, as DIY soap dispensers for your bathroom, and for beautiful decorative pieces.
sheets
If you have leftover sheets or bedding, why not recycle them as handmade aprons, pajama pants, patchwork quilts or doll clothes?
Eggshells
If you put crushed eggshells in your garden, you’ll add calcium to the soil and help your plants thrive. In addition, eggshells keep pests from destroying plants.
used dried leaves
Used dried leaves are the ideal tool for dusting. They absorb and bind dust and keep surfaces free of static electricity (which prevents dust from accumulating on them).
