Janette Fennell, founder and president of the Organization for Child and Car Safety, reveals that it only takes 22 pounds of force to crush a child’s windpipe. It’s pretty scary that the electric windows in all our vehicles have 30 to 80 pounds of force. Many vehicles are also equipped with the “one-up” feature, which consists of pushing the auto window button up so that the window automatically lifts to the top.

Janette set out to test whether her vehicle’s windows had an “auto-reverse” function. She recommended placing a roll of paper towels on the window frame and pressing the window up button. Some car windows will feel like something is bothering them and will automatically roll down.
