Although I’d love to be one of those people who fills the sink with hot, soapy water to soak dishes in before cleaning and rinsing them, I’m not. Life is so hectic these days – I tend to find myself washing a few dishes at a time, so as to not end up with an overflowing pile of dishes in the sink. It’s this exact reason that Dawn has released a new product – designed for those of us who wash dishes as we go.
Procter & Gamble released the traditional Dawn dish soap we all know and love back in 1972. However, that dish soap was designed in tandem with how people washed dishes at the time; by filling the sink with warm water, therefore activating the dish soap and the suds. As it turns out, this type of dish soap really isn’t designed for putting a few drops on a sponge to then clean a dirty dish.
“People are much more time-starved today, and they see the clean-as-you-go method as a ‘life hack,’” explains Morgan Brashear, a home care senior scientist at Procter & Gamble. “The product they were using wasn’t really keeping up.” And so, Dawn designed a new product – the Dawn Powerwash Dish Spray. This new spray doesn’t require water to activate the suds used for cleaning. That’s why it’s perfect for those of us who wash our dishes as we go.
This new product costs about $2 more per bottle than traditional Dawn dish soap, but the effectiveness of the product seems to justify the price. Procter & Gamble says that this new product can break down burnt food residue with no need for soaking time or vigorous scrubbing. In fact, they say this product works five times faster than traditional liquid dish soap.
Pretty enticing, right? Maybe you’re traditional and want to continue with the soaking method, and therefore continue using traditional Dawn dish soap. And that’s no problem. But this new product has definitely captured my attention – so I’ll certainly be tossing it in my shopping cart the next time I head to the grocery store!
