Seed Boxes.
Seeds are one of those items that many people forget about in the winter. Seeds in paper packets are protected at the store, but they still need a little care at home.
Seeds can be kept fresh by placing them in an airtight container, such as an old pencil box. Then add a few packets of silica to the container. The silica will absorb the moisture inside and keep the seeds dry come spring.
Say goodbye to foggy mirrors.
Unless your bathroom has an exhaust fan, chances are that your bathroom mirror will fog up a bit when hot water starts coming out of the shower head.
To prevent fogging of the mirror, simply rub some car polish on the front of the mirror. Take a shower and wipe all the polish off at the end of the shower. This will prevent the mirror from fogging up.
Legos want to take a bath, too.
Children’s toys, such as Legos, are often touched. This means that those fun little plastic blocks need to be disinfected from time to time to prevent the growth of bacteria.
To disinfect Lego bricks, simply pack them in a mesh laundry bag and run them through the dishwasher. When the laundry is done, remove the bag and place the Lego blocks on a towel to dry.
Reclaiming Old Furniture
Children love to draw on walls and put stickers on furniture. For many parents, they will not object, as it is one of the ways their children exercise their creativity.
If your child is happy to put a little sticker on some furniture, don’t worry. A hair dryer and a putty knife will remove the sticker in no time. The dryer will warm up the adhesive so that it can be easily removed.
Always hang straight.
If you’ve ever used the “eyeball it” method, you know that it rarely works; just stare at the wall and mark where you think it’s straight.
Therefore, you need to use a reliable thumbtack or level to determine if the hole you are drilling is straight. That way, you won’t hang a picture that looks a little off-center.
