A pond in the garden brings freshness and a cheerful atmosphere. It gives a real charm to the landscape, and birds can come to bathe and quench their thirst in summer. A lake also requires a lot of care. Stagnant water encourages the growth of green algae, which are often very invasive, and aquatic plants are not always the easiest to grow, so we suggest creating a very small pond first! This way you can still enjoy a visit from birds and small pollinating insects, and you’ll also get to see some water flowers grow naturally! Here is a very simple instruction to build a mini pond in 2 hours. Just follow the steps!

The material needed :
a plastic basin
a spade
some bricks
logs
a level
a hand planter
oxygenating plants (e.g. elodea)
a floating plant (e.g. dwarf water lily)
two semi-emergent plants (e.g. Houttuynia cordata and Lobelia ‘Queen Victoria’)

1) Start by digging a hole about 40 cm deep, which is about the diameter of the plastic tank, and add another 60 cm. With this extra 60 cm you can place the tree trunks around you

2) Remove any rocks from the bottom of the hole or other debris and assemble the pool. Use your spirit level to make sure it is level.

3) Then fill the pool with clear water. Be careful, the soil tends to settle under the weight of the water. Make sure it stays straight. Adjust them if necessary

4) Use the pot to clean the soil around the tank, then place the tree trunks vertically behind each other, as close together as possible, and keep them straight. The tree trunks should be aligned at the top and protrude 4 or 5 cm beyond the edge of the pond.

5) The logs are used to lift the pots of half-tone plants. For this purpose, these logs are placed at the bottom of the pond

6) Place the semi-cultivated plants (in this case Houttuynia and Lobelia) on the bricks when storing their containers. The neck of the plants should be just below the water level.
