6) Avoid refined carbohydrates

Diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease are linked, that is why you should regulate your intake of sugar in the form of refined carbs. Refined carbohydrates are considered sugars and staches that comes in the form of natural whole foods. Sweet potatoes and fruits have good sugars while pasta and juice boxes have bad sugars. Make sure to eat more fruits and vegetables, seafood, whole grains, and fresh meat and limit your intake of bad junk food.

7) Get smart

To prevent Alzheimer’s, make sure to engage in more mentally challenging activities like chess and card games, or simply build some stuff yourself. You can also paint, complete puzzles, or think about doing DIY projects yourself from scratch.

8) Follow the MIND diet

A study shocked the world when it revealed that following the MIND diet can reduce the chances of developing Alzheimer’s disease by 54%. The diet consists of foods from 10 different groups, and they are:

  • Six servings a week of green leafy vegetables
  • One vegetable a day
  • Three beans servings a week
  • Two berries servings a week
  • five nut servings a week
  • A glass of wine (once a day)
  • Olive oil
  • Three whole grains servings daily
  • Poultry, two times a week
  • Fish, once a week

9) Protect your head

The risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease increases when you get head injuries. Make sure to wear headgear and head protection when doing dangerous activities.

10) Quit smoking

Smoking affects your overall health, but it also increases the risks of cognitive decline. However, it is not too late, because, no matter when you quit, the risks get lower to a level similar to before you started smoking.
