You don’t need me to tell you that there is a big gap between the rich and the poor. Some have everything, while many others struggle to have a roof over their heads and food on their plates. Rick Steves is an inspiring person who seeks to reduce the gap between rich and poor. He recently donated a $4 million apartment complex that will be used exclusively to house homeless women and their children.
You may recognize Rick – he is a travel writer, author, activist and American television personality. In 2005, Rick purchased a 24-unit apartment complex and donated it to the YWCA. “They used [the complex] to house single mothers recovering from drug addiction who were now ready to regain custody of their children. Imagine the joy of knowing that I can provide a simple two-bedroom apartment for a mother and her children while she struggles to get her life back on track,” said Rick.
The complex was named Trinity Place, a building dedicated to the recovery of single mothers and preparing for reunification with their children after incarceration or drug addiction. The complex even includes a playroom full of toys and books, as well as an outdoor playground. Single mothers and their children have a safe living space, surrounded by other women in similar situations who act as a support network.
