Since I was young, my mother made these for us and when I married. My daughters always wanted these also. Now my grandchildren look forward to making them, helping to cut the holes, and dipping them in the sugar. They are delicious served warm.

An easy and budget-friendly doughnut recipe kids (big and small) will love. Before there was a doughnut shop on every corner, this was a popular way to make doughnuts at home. It’s simple and not time-consuming. Outside they’re golden brown. Inside is soft and fluffy. We loved coating them in cinnamon sugar. But powdered sugar or a chocolate glaze would be delicious too. Serve these for brunch, a special breakfast, or just because it’s Tuesday.

How To Make Sugar Donuts From Canned Biscuits

Test Kitchen TipsWe used a 1M piping tip to cut the center holes in the biscuits. A wooden BBQ skewer is perfect for flipping the doughnuts and remove them from the oil. Also, we did drain the doughnuts on a paper towel for a few minutes before coating.

  • 1– Heat cooking oil in a small skillet.
  • 2– In a shallow dish, mix sugar and cinnamon well.
  • 3– Separate biscuits and cut 1″ hole in the center with a cookie cutter (we use a water bottle lid). Save cut out holes for cooking.
  • 4– Drop 3 or 4 biscuits into hot oil and cook until golden brown.
  • 5– Flip them over and cook opposite side. Do the same thing with the holes.
  • 6– Remove from oil and dredge in the sugar mixture and put on a seperate plate to cool.
  • 7– Note: You could also coat with powdered sugar.
