4. Make a lamp
Colander’s shape makes it a perfect object for DIY projects. You can enlarge a hole in the bottom of a metal colander and attach a lightbulb fixture to it in order to make a DIY lamp.
5. Keep ice fresh for guests
Use a colander and a glass bowl instead of an ice bucket because the mechanism of the two is just so much better. When the ice starts melting, water will start dripping out and the rest of the ice cubes won’t melt that quickly.
6. Use the colander as a planter
You can use colored colanders to plant good looking flowers because the holes in the object are actually perfect for water and airflow, not to mention the beautiful look that they’ll add to your home garden.
7. Hanging planter
You can deal with this one the same you dealt with the previous one, except this time you should add twine through two sides so you can hang the plant on your porch.
8. Yarn holder
Keeping a yarn from falling can be a tough job for anyone, but throwing the yarn in a colander and pulling it through a hole keeps the yarn untangled.
9. Cake pop storage
If you love making cake pops, then you are going to love this one. You can prevent the frosting and cake from smashing if you store the pops in a colander positioned upside-down (this method is also valid for fruit kabobs).
10. Summer games
Colanders can be turned into a fun game. Hot glue a colander on an old helmet or simply a hat, then dare your friends to catch water balloons in the colander hat for a fun and wet summer game.
11. Toss it in the sandbox
When a colander starts getting all worn out, give it to your kids so that they play with it in the sandbox or in the pool.
