1. Mix up a DIY carpet freshening powder
Mix 25 drops of essential oil of your choice with a cup of baking soda until you get a powder. Once your mix is done, put it in a mason jar and start sprinkling the obtained powder all over the carpet (sprinkle the required amount only). Once done, let the powder sit for a while before vacuuming the carpet.
2. Craft a powerful carpet cleaning powder
Mix 2 cups of cornmeal with a cup of borax, then add a couple of drops of essential oils of your choice (optional) until you get a powder. Once done, sprinkle the obtained powder on your carpet and let it sit for an hour, then vacuum your carpet normally. This way you will get rid of grim and oils from the carpet and also freshen the room.
3. Use a dry carpet stain remover
Sometimes, cleaning the whole carpet is not necessary especially if there are only a few stained spots. You can clean the stains using a homemade method without the need for any commercial product. Start by sprinkling baking soda on top of the stained spot(s) and let it sit for an hour, then mix half a teaspoon of vinegar with half a teaspoon of clear dish soap and a cup of warm water. Once done, dab the obtained solution on the stained area(s) using a clean cloth until there are no stains left. You can let the area(s) dry all by itself, or you can blot it with a dry cloth to dry it.
4. Remove furniture dents from carpet
If you want to restore your carpet to its previous conditions after noticing furniture dents, simply put a couple of ice cubes on the dented area(s) and let them sit for a while until they fully meltdown. If by chance there is some moisture left, the next day it will vanish.
5. Fluff high traffic areas
If your carpet is worn out and you want to fluff it, simply mix equal parts of vinegar and water, then pour the mix in a spray bottle. Once done, start spraying the solution all over the worn-out carpet and let the solution dry up. Now vacuum your carpet normally and fluff the remaining matted areas using the edge of a spoon.
