Canned tomatoes? Say no more!

Canned tomatoes (known also as tinned tomatoes) are usually peeled tomatoes locked in a can after being processed and cooked by heat. This latter is available in diverse different forms:

  • Tomato Paste

Tomato paste is the result of cooking tomatoes for a very long time (the most concentrated canned tomato product ever made); used in almost all sorts of soup recipes and sauces, it adds a unique flavor to the dish especially if you were using a good brand.

If you needed tomato sauce and you only got tomato paste in hands, just pour it in a glass and mix it with a ¼ cup of water! It makes a perfect replacement!

  • Pureed Tomatoes

Pureed tomatoes are somewhere between paste and crushed tomatoes, it isn’t as concentrated as paste but thicker in flavor than crushed. This latter works pretty well in tomato soups or sauces like enchilada sauce and much more.

In addition, if you were in need of whole peeled tomatoes (or crushed tomatoes), you can use pureed tomatoes as a replacement.

  • Tomato Sauce

Tomato sauce is considered the base of almost all sauces (barbecue sauce, mushroom sauce, dipping sauce, pizza sauce, baking beans and more), it has been cooked with a splash of massive tomato flavor that adds a unique taste.

Important to mention, homemade tomato sauce and tomato sauce are not the same! Homemade tomato sauce is flavored with seasonings and spices unlike tomato sauce. In addition, some people get lost between tomato sauce and pasta sauce that includes other veggies.

Want to make tomato sauce? Take a cup, combine tomato paste with water! See? Magic!

  • Crushed Tomatoes

Crushed tomatoes are a combination of tomato puree and diced tomatoes, as a result, you’ll get a less cooked-tasting flavor and chunkier at the same time.

Crushed tomatoes can replace pureed tomatoes and whole peeled tomatoes in soup recipes, otherwise, crushed tomatoes aren’t suitable for other replacements.

  • Whole Peeled Tomatoes

This one my friends are the perfect kind of canned tomatoes; you can freely turn it into what ever type of canned tomato you need!

Whole peeled tomatoes can be used in all recipes that call for canned tomatoes, I mean ALL! Use your hands to make crushed tomatoes, mix for pureed tomato or chop for diced.
