Why aren’t my air fryer potatoes crispy?

Be sure to start with dry potatoes If you use sweet potatoes or other potatoes, be sure to use good quality ones. When using russet, redskin, or sweet potato potatoes, it is important to scrape off any remaining dirt from the potatoes before cooking. In other words, you also want to give the potatoes a chance to dry. It is best to scrub the potatoes at least 30 minutes before cooking. Dab with paper towels, place on a kitchen towel, and rotate after 15 minutes to dry both sides of the potato skins. Cut potatoes into small pieces and continue with recipe. If you are in a hurry and cannot scrub the potatoes until just before cooking, try to pat dry as much as possible before mixing with the oil and spices.

Do the potatoes need to be soaked in water before emptying?

While not required, this is another useful step for the crispiest potatoes. Once the potatoes are cut, soaking them in cold water for 30 minutes (or overnight) will remove the starch from the cut edges, allowing them to crisp up more in the air fryer. (Wipe them dry well before cooking!) ) The french fries are also very good. This is actually the secret to crispy French fries as well.

If you have time, cut the potatoes into smaller pieces and give it a try. On weeknights or when you want quick fries, you can use uncooked fries, but the heat from the air fryer will make them delicious.
