6. Air registers

Make sure to clean your air registers every once in a while especially if you are a smoker, have smoking roommates, or/and pets. To clean the registers, locate them on the walls and floors in your house, then unscrew each and every register. Once done, wash them thoroughly and put them back into place.

7. Oil filter

The oil filter is one of the most important parts of the oil-fired heating systems because it can prevent oil and dirt from blocking and damaging the burner fuel nozzle. Keep in mind that if the burner fuel nozzle is blocked, then it won’t burn the oil to heat the house. All you have to do is change the filter once or twice a year.

8. Ducts and vents

If your heating system is not heating as efficiently as it used to do, then it’s most likely because of leaky, damaged, or obstructed duct. To deal with the problem, remove the registers to make sure that ducts are not obscured, then call for a professional to repair or clean the ducts.
