I’ve been researching and writing about tiny homes for years, but never have I seen one quite like the one I’m about to share with you today. 38-year-old Tim Johnson is an Alaska resident who decided to build a tiny log cabin onto the bed of his 1996 Ford F-350. Though small, this cabin is mighty, and has no problem withstanding the tough Alaskan winters.

“I sold my Toyota because it was on its last legs and bought a classic Ford truck for just under $13,000 because I wanted to finally create my dream truck house,” Tim said. “It cost me another $13,000 to build the house on the back so all together the bill has come to around $26,000.” The project took about three months to complete, and Tim was able to take on the work himself using carpentry skills passed down from his father.

Every inch of the cabin’s interior was designed extremely thoughtfully. Tim has managed to fit two couches, a cookstove, a TV, and a toilet into the tiny space. There’s also a small porch off the back for outside seating and enjoying the beautiful Alaskan views.

“My truck house is perfect, it has everything I need to stay out for as long as I need,” Tim said. “I wasn’t in a rush with this project, I thought if I was going to do it again, I wanted to do it properly and make it exactly how I had pictured it in my head.” Tim’s design is extremely innovative and perfect for the outdoor enthusiast who’s always on the go. Great work on this clever and adventurous build, Tim!
