First Lady Mamie Eisenhower’s Chocolate Fudge Recipe

When you think of the Eisenhowers, you probably think about a family who completely embodied everything about the 1950s. When she wasn’t keeping the White House in order, Mamie Eisenhower loved to whip up sweet treats. One of her favorite dessert recipes, “Million Dollar Fudge,” came from a clipping in a periodical she found. And so, her famous chocolate fudge was born. To make Mamie Eisenhower’s Million Dollar Fudge, you will need:

4 1/2 cups of sugar

Pinch of salt

2 tablespoons of butter

1 tall can of evaporated milk

12 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate bits

12 ounces of German sweet chocolate

1 pint of marshmallow cream

2 cups of nutmeats

Directions:

Step 1: Boil the sugar, salt, butter, and evaporated milk for six minutes.

Step 2: Put the chocolate bits, German chocolate, marshmallow cream, and nutmeats in a bowl. Pour the boiling syrup over the ingredients in the bowl.

Step 3: Beat until the chocolate is all melted, then pour the mixture into a pan.

Step 4: Let stand a few hours before cutting. Remember, this recipe is always better on the second day. Store in a tin box.
