“I had purchased some succulent pork ribs and began preparing them for the slow cooker in the morning, only to realize I was out of BBQ sauce! Given my lack of experience in making BBQ sauce from scratch, I turned to my trusty source, 77recipes.com. Among the options available, I settled on this particular recipe because I happened to have all the necessary ingredients on hand. To my delight, the homemade BBQ sauce turned out exceptionally well! I decided to double the recipe and introduce a teaspoon of cayenne pepper to infuse a hint of spiciness into its sweetness. I heeded another user’s advice and skipped the water, as I preferred a thicker sauce. Additionally, I incorporated a touch of honey into the mix. Surprisingly, it wasn’t overly sweet, so I plan to increase the amount of brown sugar, honey, and cayenne pepper in my future iterations. This BBQ sauce provides an excellent foundation that can be customized to suit your preferences. To kickstart the cooking process, I followed my usual routine of broiling the ribs before transferring them to the crockpot. I also threw in a generous helping of chopped onion. Cooking on low for 7 hours resulted in a delectable dish! =)”

“As for the ribs themselves, they turned out terrifically. Before placing them in the Slow Cooker, I seasoned each rib with salt and pepper and gave them a good sear on all sides. This searing step created a delightful caramelized crust that added to the overall appeal. I let them cook on Low for a duration of 7 hours. There was some grease buildup, but I easily removed it using tongs and a paper towel. Superb!”

Ingredients:

  • 4 beef ribs (I used the two smallest ones, and they nearly filled me up, so consider your serving size and accompaniments)
  • 3/4 cup of BBQ sauce (look for an American variety with a smoky touch, like Sweet Baby Ray’s)
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of molasses
  • 1/4 teaspoon of curry powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of American mustard
  • Half a clove of garlic, minced
  • A few twists of black pepper
  • Two splashes of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of honey

Directions:

The core of this recipe lies in the BBQ sauce, comprised of BBQ sauce, brown sugar, molasses, and curry powder. However, adjust the flavor based on the particular BBQ sauce you use. If you prefer a spicier sauce, consider adding a pinch of cayenne pepper. Your sauce should embody sweetness, smokiness, and tanginess. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl, mix thoroughly, and then transfer the mixture to a small saucepan. Simmer it over low heat for approximately 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Keep in mind that the sauce’s taste evolves when heated, especially if you’ve included raw spices like cayenne.

For the ribs, place them in a pot of water and gently simmer for 3 hours. Be cautious not to bring the water to a boil. During the last half-hour, monitor the ribs closely to ensure they become tender but don’t fall apart.

Once cooked, generously baste the ribs with your homemade BBQ sauce and proceed to cook them on a barbecue grill. Alternatively, you can utilize an indoor grill pan or roast them in the oven. Baste the ribs as they cook, striving to achieve a delightful crust. Since the ribs are already cooked, the cooking time on each side may vary between 3 to 10 minutes, depending on your chosen method.

We chose to pair these mouthwatering ribs with coleslaw, but you can also serve them alongside a baked potato or any other side dishes that tickle your taste buds. For an alternative serving idea, consider pulling the tender meat, mixing it with the remaining BBQ sauce, and serving it on toasted sourdough rolls. Enjoy!
