Cooking Ingredients

Ingredients needed to make Slow Cooker Loose Beef are as follows

  • Ground Beef: It is preferable to use an 80/20 ratio so that the beef does not dry out.
  • Crushed sausage. Adding the sausage to the slow-cooked beef will give it a richer flavor.
  • Yellow onions. Starting with onions adds flavor. It also adds texture and a bit of sweetness.
  • Garlic: The richness of garlic complements soft onions. We always recommend using fresh garlic whenever possible.
  • Green Pepper This is a classic ingredient. It gives more texture and a fresh taste.

  • Tomato Sauce Using ketchup adds flavor and a hint of sweetness.
  • BBQ Sauce This is an ingredient that adds a lot of flavor with just one bottle. BBQ sauce is flavorful on its own, and adds a polpolo, smoky aroma and sweetness.
  • Brown Sugar: This is another ingredient that enhances the sweetness. Use as much as you like.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar: A generous amount of apple cider vinegar provides acidity. This acid helps to enhance the other flavors and adds a bit of tartness.
  • Yellow Mustard Mustard adds a rich, earthy flavor to beef. This will also balance the sweetness.
  • Worcestershire sauce This ingredient adds a savory flavor. A little goes a long way.
  • Pickled jalapenos. Optional, but recommended! We like to add a little heat. But feel free to omit it when serving to small children.
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese. Also, you can use pepper jack for extra heat.
  • Burgers or Texas toast. You need something soft and tasty to mix with the pollo! I also like to use mini dinner rolls to make pollo sliders for the kids!

  • You can use all ground beef if you prefer. You can also use ground turkey or chicken. If you use ground turkey or chicken, I would suggest not using the super lean stuff as it will be dry.
  • Use different types of bell peppers. If you don’t like green bell peppers, you can switch to sweet, mild red, yellow, or orange bell peppers.
  • Experiment with different sweeteners. You can also use maple syrup instead of brown sugar.
